Subjects: Social Studies

Participants: Elementary Grades 2 -5

Objective: The students will be able to:

star Learn about other cultures and countries from around the world. star Develop an appreciation of people from around the world. starMake friends around the world.
star Locate communities from around the world on the map starTo share information about their communities starLearn about the environmental issues

Ideas For the Classroom

A variety of ways to use "Communities Around the World" information in your classroom.

One: You can select a student to check the web page each week for new updates on the communities. The student prints out the new information and reads it to the class.

The student places the information in the location provided by the teacher.

A bulletin board with the world map makes a great resources for the information generated by the participating schools.

Two: Students who are studying various countries and or cultures will use The Internet Schoolhouse as a resource to to gather information about the community they are studying.

Three: Discuss what people have in common around the world.

Four: Read about the various communities and have students pick their favorite community.

Five: Graph the community activities.
